The Stars come out to shine for HelpHarryHelpOthers
Stars from TV, Sport and Music come together to support Harry Moseley
HelpHarryHelpOthers and Birmingham City Football Club played host to over 30 celebrities from the worlds of TV, Music and Sports on May 18th, as they all took part in the inaugural Celebfooty4Harry sponsored by Virgin Media and Lookers Vauxhall. This was the first of what is set to become an annual showstopper in the celebrity calendar with over 7,000 people attending and raising over £120,000 for the charity.
In memory of Harry Moseley, who passed away aged 11 in October 2011 from an inoperable brain cancer, Celebfooty4Harry has proved to be one of the biggest celebrity charity events this year, raising vital funds for the HelpHarryHelpOthers charity which was launched in September 2012.
In conjunction with Birmingham City FC, the celebrity football match featured two teams of 18 celebrities from the entertainment and sporting world including Joe Calzaghe (World Champion Boxer) and MC Harvey (Rapper), as well as reality television favourites Mario Falcone and James Argent (TOWIE) and The Overtones and Gareth Gates.
Under the guidance of ex-Birmingham City ace Michael Johnson and former Aston Villa favourite Ian Taylor, the teams battled it out on the field to be crowned champion of the 2013 Footy4Harry match with Ian Taylor’s “Harry’s Heroes” running out victors with a score of 12-2 against Michael’s “The Moseley Mob”.
Kicking off at 3pm, with tickets from just £1 for children and £10 for adults, the day saw MC Harvey top the goal sheets with 5 goals to his name, but the day was really about celebrating the life of one remarkable little boy, and the inspirational example he has left behind.
“Harry was always special to me as his mum” explains Charity chairman Georgie Moseley “and it makes me so proud to know that what he created continues to inspire so many people, and especially children, to this day!”
“More than anything we wanted a crowd of people to be able to look around them at the 1000s of people there” explains charity CEO and former Coronation Street Actor Adam Rickitt “look down and see some of the country’s top celebrities, and know that all this was because of what one boy did, and that each of us can create something miraculous”.
Celebrity players included:
“It’s been an amazing day” said captain and TOWIE favourite James Argent “seeing so many people come together to support what is a truly incredible cause. To be captain of a team on day like today really does fill me with pride…and to captain the winning team…well that just tops the lot!”
X-factor and Dancing on Ice star Shayne Ward added “it’s been really humbling to see and hear about everything the charity does. For us all to be able to turn up and help in some small way means a lot to all of us.”
Top scorer MC Harvey said “the more I found out about Harry and what the charity do, the more I wanted to play a part….to be fair I never expected to knock in 5 but the day was more about helping people with Cancer and giving hope.”
HelpHarryHelpOthers aims to help find a cure for cancer as well as helping families stricken by cancer.
Harry’s mum Georgie Moseley adds: “Harry would have been very proud of the Footy4Harry match, combining his love of football and fundraising to help raise money for the benefit of others.
We wanted to make this event a fun day out for all the family, as well as football fans, so with tickets available from £1 this really is a great and affordable way to enjoy a summer’s day with your friends and family.”
